We received an enquiry to provide a design and quotation to replace boilers which were soon to reach life expectancy.
The project required replacement of boilers whilst providing minimal impact to domestic hot water as the building would remain occupied throughout the project 24/7.
This is normally achieved via a temporary boiler cabin located externally, however whilst carrying out the design it was clear the car park had limited space, and entrance was difficult for delivery from such a busy road.
We came up with the idea to use an existing boiler on site in an adjacent building which only required demand for heating, as the project was to be carried out in the summer we agreed with the client to use this boiler to power the hot water demand whilst the boilers were exchanged, we altered the pipework and supplied flow and return pipework over to the existing hot water cylinders with a quick change over in less than a day so the occupants were without hot water less than four hours. This enabled the existing boilers to be removed and allowed time to install the new plant, such as 3no Hamworthy Purewell Variheat MK2 140c floor standing condensing modular boilers up to 96% gross seasonal efficiency, we designed the output of the 3no boilers to provide heating and DHW as Duty/Assist/Standby. The boilers duty will be rotated via the BMS controls periodically to share usage, new B23 flue installation to enable condensing boilers, via 150mm I.D Metaloterm ME single wall flue systems connecting vertically before connecting into a 250mm horizontal flue header system to suit 3no boilers connecting into the base of the existing chimney stack, the existing chimney stack is to be lined with 250mm I.D Tecmoflex flue liner to termination point. Gas Safety Interlock system for plant room via 1no 80mm gas solenoid valve, 3no boiler thermal links, 1no emergency stop push button 1no Natural gas detector 1no Carbon Monoxide detector, modify gas pipe work to enable installation of safety system. new BMS system inclusive of 1no BMS control panel, electrical installation of control panel & associated control devices, primary and secondary containment with plantroom areas, HVAC controls commissioning, BMS software design and commissioning.
