Hope Wood Academy Heating System Upgrade

R.M. Myers & Co Ltd were appointed by Ascent Trust to review and upgrade the heating and hot water systems at Hope Wood Academy. During our initial site survey, we identified that the existing plant room contained two noncondensing gas boilers providing heating, along with two separate gas fired water heaters serving the school’s domestic hot water demand. Our assessment showed that the heating system had been significantly oversized for the building’s actual requirements, resulting in inefficient operation.

Rather than simply replacing the equipment on a like for like basis, we carried out a full system review including heat loss calculations and an analysis of the building’s heating and hot water demand. This allowed us to design a more efficient and simplified solution.

Our Solution
We installed two high efficiency AIC Coil Master condensing boilers to provide both heating and domestic hot water from a single system. These boilers can produce hot water instantaneously using a coil heat exchanger immersed within the primary heating circuit. This approach allowed us to reduce the plant room from four gas appliances down to just two while improving overall system performance.
